United Hospital Fund Honors 31 Health Care Trustees

New York, New York, May 1, 2017 - United Hospital Fund (UHF) presented Distinguished Trustee Awards to 31 trustees from New York metropolitan area hospitals and health care organizations at a luncheon today at Cipriani 42nd Street. The honorees were recognized for their extraordinary leadership and service to hospitals, nursing homes, and home care organizations throughout the five boroughs of New York City and neighboring Long Island, Westchester, and New Jersey.

This is the 27th year the Fund has presented Distinguished Trustee Awards. All of the trustees were nominated by their respective institutions, and all share the same goals as UHF—to ensure safe, effective, affordable care, and a financially sound health care system, serving the needs of diverse communities and populations throughout the New York metropolitan region. The honorees and the institutions they serve are listed below.

Luncheon co-chairs Cary Kravet, trustee of Northwell Health, and Mary Beth Tully, trustee of NYU Winthrop Hospital, joined United Hospital Fund president James R. Tallon, Jr., in recognizing the 31 Distinguished Trustees honored at the lunch, which was attended by some 600 members and supporters of the health care community and the honorees' colleagues, friends, and family.

TD Bank provided underwriting support for the Tribute for the 12th consecutive year. This year the TD Charitable Foundation is targeting its support to UHF's Innovation Strategies Initiative, with a special focus on developing more effective primary care, particularly in low-income neighborhoods.

The luncheon co-chairmen are both board members of United Hospital Fund and have long been active in health care. Mr. Kravet is president and chief executive officer of Kravet Inc., a fifth-generation family business based in Bethpage, New York, that is a global leader in decorative home furnishings. He has been a trustee of Northwell since 2003, and chairs its Committee on Quality.

UHF President Jim Tallon
Ms. Tully, a trustee of NYU Winthrop since 2012, has worked in both the public and non-profit sectors, including 10 years at New York City Health + Hospitals. She is now involved in a number of volunteer initiatives.

“These Distinguished Trustees provide a unique perspective to their organizations during a challenging time for the health care system,” said UHF President Jim Tallon. “The trustees combine sensitivity to local needs, profound consideration of the patient experience, and a concern for quality and fiscal responsibility. We at the United Hospital Fund are pleased to have this opportunity to pay tribute to their exemplary efforts and contributions.”
