UHF also announces its first Gould Visiting Scholar, Dr. Dave Chokshi
NEW YORK, NY—July 16, 2020— United Hospital Fund announced today that it has elected five new members to its board of directors: Margaret Crotty, CEO of Partnership with Children; Samuel J. Daniel, MD, assistant chief of gastroenterology and hepatology at Mount Sinai St. Luke's and Mount Sinai West Hospitals and Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai; Christophe Durand, managing director and senior partner of Boston Consulting Group ; Robert C. Osborne, Jr., a principal of The Osborne Group, Inc.; and Anthony E. Shorris, John L. Weinberg/Goldman Sachs Visiting Professor at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University.
UHF also announced that Dave Chokshi, MD, a primary care internist at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and Clinical Associate Professor of Population Health and Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, has joined the Fund as Gould Visiting Scholar to help UHF enhance current programs and develop new initiatives.

Simons. “Their diversity of experience and background will do much to enrich UHF’s ongoing efforts to create a more accessible and equitable health care system for all new Yorkers.”
Margaret Crotty has served in executive leadership roles in both nonprofit and private sector organizations focused on education and public health. In 2012 she became CEO of Partnership with Children (PWC), a major provider of school-based mental health services and community school management through a broad range of federal, state, and city contracts. During her tenure PWC has more than doubled in size, now serving over 100 schools and more than 30,000 young people.
Previously, Ms. Crotty launched and ran Save the Children’s global $2 billion initiative to reduce child mortality. Ms. Crotty holds a BA in African-American studies from Princeton University, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a Master of Public Health from Columbia University.
Samuel J. Daniel, MD, was president and CEO of North General Hospital in Harlem, now closed, prior to joining Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He has treated patients with Hepatitis C for nearly 30 years and written a book on Chronic Hepatitis C in the African-American community.
Dr. Daniel received a BA from Queens College City University of New York and his medical degree from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Christophe Durand is a Managing Director and Senior Partner at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and a core member of the firm’s Healthcare Practice, with deep industry experience in medical technology. He has led initiatives with his clients across a broad range of topics including mergers and acquisitions, organization, commercial excellence, and research and development. He is also one of BCG’s global topic leaders in growth and innovation. He joined the Paris office of BCG in 1998 and moved to the New York office three years later.
Mr. Durand received his undergraduate degree from École Polytechnique in France and a Master of Engineering Management from Stanford University.
Robert Osborne, Jr., is a principal of The Osborne Group, which provides nonprofit philanthropy coaching and organizational management consulting services. The firm was founded by his parents, former UHF board member Robert Osborne, Sr. and his wife, Karen Osborne.
Mr. Osborne has served as the Director of Development for St. Aloysius School, Interfaith Neighbors, and the Center for Constitutional Rights. He specializes in organizational management, including strategic planning and scaling fundraising programs, and works with clients on a range of projects around the globe. He is a well-known international speaker and workshop leader.
Mr. Osborne currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Czech Fundraising Center in Prague, Czech Republic, as an International Ambassador to the accelerator and incubator Impact Hub Belgrade, and as a partner in Studio X Ventures, a venture studio with a focus on women-led tech startups in Southern Eastern Europe. He holds a BA from Cornell University.
Anthony E. Shorris has a long history of public service in addition to his academic work as the John L. Weinberg/Goldman Sachs Visiting Professor at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. Prior to joining Princeton, Mr. Shorris was First Deputy Mayor of New York City from 2014 to 2018, and before that vice dean, senior vice president, and chief of staff of New York University Langone Medical Center, both its hospitals and medical school.
Mr. Shorris is also senior advisor at McKinsey & Company. Over his career he has served as Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Deputy Chancellor for Operations and Policy at the Board of Education of the City of New York, and as New York City's Commissioner of Finance and Deputy Budget Director. He received his BA from Harvard College and a Master in Public Affairs from the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs.
Dave A. Chokshi, MD, the first Gould Visiting Scholar at UHF, recently served as the inaugural chief population health officer and CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals Accountable Care Organization. Previously, Dr. Chokshi served as a White House Fellow and was the principal health advisor to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. In 2016, President Obama appointed him to the Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion, and Integrative and Public Health.
Dr. Chokshi received his MD from University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, a Master of Science in global public health as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, and his BA from Duke University. The Gould Visiting Scholar program at UHF was established by Elaine and David Gould this year to bring high-level external expertise to UHF helpful in enhancing current UHF programs and developing new initiatives.
