NEW YORK, NEW YORK November 16, 2017—United Hospital Fund (UHF) announced today that Robert S. Galvin, MD, chief executive officer of Equity Healthcare, a subsidiary of Blackstone, where he is an operating partner, has been elected to its board of directors.
Dr. Galvin is a nationally recognized leader in market-based health policy and financing, quality measurement, and payment reform. Equity Healthcare oversees the management of health care for firms owned by private equity companies, and currently encompasses 50 companies with health care spending of $2 billion annually.
Prior to joining Blackstone, Dr. Galvin served as executive director of health services and chief medical officer of General Electric (GE) for 15 years. Before GE, Dr. Galvin practiced as a general internist in the Boston area.
In addition to his business expertise, Dr. Galvin brings to the board his experience as co-founder of the Leapfrog Group and founder of Bridges to Excellence/Prometheus and Catalyst for Payment Reform (CPR), all nonprofit organizations helping to drive the health care quality improvement agenda.

Dr. Galvin is a member of the National Academy of Medicine (formerly the Institute of Medicine), a branch of the National Academy of Sciences. He is chairman of the board of Catalyst for Payment Reform and is a board member of two for-profit companies: Real Endpoints, a privately held informatics and solutions company, and Team Health, a provider staffing company. He is a former board member of Vanguard Health Systems, the National Quality Forum, and the National Business Group on Health, and has been published in the Harvard Business Review, New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and Health Affairs.
Dr. Galvin received his BA and MD degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in Healthcare Management from Boston University. He is currently Professor Adjunct of Medicine and Health Policy at Yale University. He has received awards for his work from the National Business Group on Health, Healthcare Financial Management Association, and National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
