On April 14, 2023, Doctor Radio Reports, a Sirius XM program sponsored by NYU Langone Health, featured an interview with United Hospital Fund president and CEO Oxiris Barbot, MD, that focused on New York City’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, her experience as the city’s health commissioner at the time, and the huge racial and ethnic disparities in infections and deaths.
In the first audio clip from the interview, to the right, Marc Siegel, MD, medical director of Doctor Radio, asks Dr. Barbot to explain the importance of collecting data on the race and ethnicity of New Yorkers infected by the COVID-19 virus, and the difficulties in collecting that data.
In the second clip, he asks her to describe her role leading UHF, which she assumed in September 2022. “I am thrilled to be president and CEO,” she says, noting that UHF gives her the opportunity to bring together her clinical background as a pediatrician and her years in public health to address the inequities in the health care system.
Doctor Radio can be heard on Channel 110 on Sirius XM.
