Trends through June 2011
According to this issue of Hospital Watch Vital Signs, which tracks New York City hospital trends through June 2011, the inpatient census fell by 1.9 percent citywide during the first half of 2011, while emergency department visits increased by 2.2 percent. Emergency visits rose by an average 0.7 percent among the city’s voluntary hospitals, but grew by 6.0 percent at the municipal hospitals, with all 11 facilities reporting increases.
The new issue also reports on declines in length of stay and modest increases in staffing and operating margins at New York City's hospitals.
