United Hospital Fund Launches 14th Class of the Clinical Quality Fellowship Program

NEW YORK, NY—April 4, 2023—United Hospital Fund and Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA) have launched the 14th class of their Clinical Quality Fellowship Program, a 15-month program designed to develop the next generation of quality improvement and patient safety leaders.

The class of 2023-2024 is made up of 28 mid-career health care professionals, including 19 physicians, seven nurse professionals, and two physician assistants from 25 health care institutions across the New York metropolitan area. In March the Fellows attended a two-day learning retreat at the Louis V. Gerstner Jr. Center in Armonk, NY, where they reviewed the latest quality and patient safety best practices, federal and state policies, and how to create high reliability in health care and apply a health equity focus.

The CQFP program was created in 2009 to expand the number of clinicians with the skills needed to lead quality improvement and patient safety efforts in their hospitals and other health care settings and has enrolled more than 300 Fellows since its launch. Many of the program’s graduates have gone on to assume leadership positions in their health care organizations.

Each fellowship program includes two off-site learning retreats, monthly webinars, mentoring by expert faculty, and the development by each Fellow of a capstone project that involves planning and implementing a quality improvement initiative at their institution.
