UHF Testimony Addresses COVID-19's Impact on Minority Communities

UHF President Tony Shih, MD, and Chad Shearer, senior vice president for policy and program, submitted written testimony to a New York State joint legislative hearing on May 18 that explored solutions to COVID-19's disproportionate impact on minority communities. The UHF testimony emphasized that as New York enters the recovery and rebuilding phases of the crisis, the federal, state, and local governments must ensure access to adequate primary care; address the underlying health and economic disparities that led to the disproportionate impact of the disease on minority communities; and invest in economic development, housing, jobs, education, and other social determinants of health.
