UHF Honors 28 Hospital Trustees for Leadership and Service

United Hospital Fund honored 28 trustees from hospitals throughout the greater New York region with its Distinguished Trustee Award at a luncheon today at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. The honorees are being recognized for their leadership and extraordinary service to hospitals in New York City's five boroughs, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and close-by Connecticut and New Jersey.

This is the 26th year UHF has presented Distinguished Trustee Awards. The trustees were nominated by their respective institutions, which include community hospitals, academic medical centers and health systems, and public hospitals.

Among the award recipients are prominent leaders in finance, law, business, real estate, advertising, health care, public service, religion, philanthropy, and entertainment. (See the list of honorees and the hospitals they serve, below.)

TD Bank (through its charitable giving arm, the TD Charitable Foundation) provided underwriter support for the 2016 Tribute to Hospital Trustees, reflecting its commitment to hospitals and health care in New York, community involvement as a corporate value, and customer focus.

UHF President Jim Tallon, Event Co-Chairman Steven Hochberg, and UHF Chairman J. Barclay Collins II recognized the 28 Distinguished Trustees honored at the event, before a crowd of more than 600 colleagues, family, and friends.

Steven Hochberg and Howard Milstein served as luncheon co-chairmen for the event. They are themselves both trustees of health care institutions. Senior vice chairman of the Mount Sinai Health System, Mr. Hochberg is a partner at Deerfield Management and the co-founder of Ascent Biomedical Ventures. On the board of Weill Cornell Medicine for almost 30 years, Mr. Milstein is chairman of New York Private Bank & Trust and chairman of Milstein Properties.

“As our health care system undergoes significant transformation, hospital trustees are playing a vital role, bringing a wealth of skills, knowledge, and other resources to bear,” said UHF President Jim Tallon. “For the hours and hours they serve, for the deep loyalty and caring they demonstrate towards their hospitals and communities, and for helping with a broad range of short- and long-term challenges, we at United Hospital Fund are privileged to have this opportunity to celebrate and thank these extraordinary voluntary leaders.”
