Greater New York Hospital Association

Grant Date: 11.06.2012
Amount: $125,000

In 2005, the Fund and the Greater New York Hospital Association formed a partnership to improve the quality of care provided in hospitals in the New York metropolitan region, beginning with an initiative to reduce central line-associated bloodstream infections in intensive care units.  Since then, the Fund and GNYHA have implemented a series of successful and well-received quality initiatives involving more than 80 hospitals.  This grant will build upon the quality improvement program through the following activities:

  • Continue the Clinical Quality Fellowship Program, which is developing the next generation of physician and nurse “champions” to lead quality improvement and patient safety efforts at hospitals;
  • Extend the STOP Sepsis Collaborative—which was launched two years ago in emergency departments and has reduced sepsis mortality by 18%—to focus on pediatric patients with sepsis in the ED and adult sepsis patients throughout the entire hospital; and
  • Continue a new palliative care quality improvement collaborative that is developing a standardized approach and implementing best practices in providing palliative care, and will analyze the program’s impact on factors including patient length of stay and disposition.
